View from the Inclined Plane near Philadelphia, 1838
Full title: "View from the Inclined Plane, near Philadelphia, entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1838 by J.C. Wild and J.B. Chevalier in the Clerk's Office of the District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania." This view looks east down the west side of the valley of the Schuylkill River along the tracks that accomodated the Pennsylvania Railroad as it headed west from the city. The view is roughly from the area of Fairmount Park now known as the Belmont Plateau. At the bottom the so-called Columbia Bridge across the Schuylkill is visible.
