Centre Square Water Works, Frederick Graff, Sr. Plans, 1799

Frederick Graff, Sr. worked as draftsman and assistant to Benjamin Henry Latrobe during the design and construction of the Centre Square Water Works between 1799 and its opening in 1801. Graff later became chief engineer of the Fairmount Water Works (the successor to Centre Square), a role that only ended with his death in 1847. These tracing copies of Graff's drawings, part of the Philadelphia Water Department Historical Collection, were probably made in the 1930s. The original drawings, to our knowledge, do not survive.
