Navy Yard on the Delaware River (Picturesque America)

This image shows a tall-masted ship moored in the Delaware River at the old Navy Yard, located in South Philadelphia at the foot of Federal Street. Several smaller craft, probably full of sailors either heading to the ship or hurrying onshore to the nearest grog shop, sit nearby. Federal Street was so-named because the U.S. Navy Yard sat at one end, and the U.S. Arsenal sat at the other end, along the Schuylkill River.
