Last gasp of the Schuylkill Interceptor, December 20, 1956

Four officials in hats, ties and coats stand just behind the outfall of the Schuylkill Interceptor on December 20, 1956, watching the last bit of untreated sewage spill into the river. Behind them is the Fairmount Dam and part of Boathouse Row. The flow was diverted into a newly-completed extension of the interceptor that carried the wastes to the new Southwest Sewage Treatment Plant.
