Fourth of July in Centre Square, painted around 1812 by John Lewis Krimmel. The wooden statue in the fountain, Allegory of the Schuylkill River (Water Nymph and Bittern), was carved in 1809 by Philadelphia sculptor William Rush. In 1827 it was moved to the grounds of the Fairmount Water Works.
