Southeast Corner of Third and Market, Philadelphia
Bustling street scene from 1799 of the southeast corner of Third and Market. Art by William Russell Birch and Thomas Birch, engraved by Samuel Seymour.
Image prominently features "Cooke's Folly," the large and lavish building in the middle of the scene. Built by jeweler Joseph Cooke in 1792, the building was demolished in 1838 after years of decay brought on by a lack of investment.
