Ground Plan, Great Central Sanitary Fair, Philadelphia

Ground plan for the now largely forgotten Great Central Sanitary Fair of 1864, which was one of a series of Sanitary Fairs held around the country between 1863-65 to raise funds for the Union Army during the Civil War. Five Sanitary Fairs were held in total: one each in Philadelphia and New York, two in Chicago, and one in Lowell, MA. The Philadelphia version took place from June 7-28, 1864, in Logan Square, and was highlighted by a visit on June 16 by President Abraham Lincoln and his family.
