Frankford Pumping Station Plans and Diagrams, 1870s

Collections of plans and technical drawings documenting the Frankford Pumping Station, part of the Philadelphia, Pa. water supply system, built in 1876-1877. Included are drawings of various pumping engines, cross sections of the pumping station, an associated pipeline (part of which had to be elevated on a trestle), and the Wentz Farm Reservoir, where water pumped from the Delaware River was stored. The station was located at the foot of Robbins Street.

To learn more about this pumping station, read the Frankford chapter in Water A. Graf's 1931 history of pumping stations. The station was taken out of service in the early 20th century, when the city began filtering its water supply. The Lardner's Point Pumping Station now (2024) occupies the location.
