Drawing Dock Creek (2008)

In 2008, Philadelphia-based sculptor and visual artist Winifred Lutz was commissioned to recreate the historic path of Dock Creek through Independence National Historical Park. The creek, notorious even in colonial days for being fetid and pollution-choked, was covered over in the 1790s.

Drawing Dock Creek: an art installation by Winifred Lutz. Commissioned by the American Philosophical Society (APS) Museum in partnership with Independence National Historical Park. The brochure includes an accurate map of the industry that once polluted Dock Creek in the 18th century, before it was walled in and covered over by Dock Street. See this page for more information about this exhibit.
