Bathsheba’s Bath and Bower

Bathsheba's bath and bower, or Bathsheba's spring and bower, was a property in Society Hill owned by Bathsheba Bowers, an eccentric Quaker preacher and author whose most well-known work is 1709's An Alarm Sounded to Prepare the Inhabitants of the World to Meet the Lord in the Way of His Judgments.

Possibly the first spa in Philadelphia, the bower featured an ornate garden and a spring bearing what was called the "finest water in the City" that Bowers encouraged visitors to drink from.
