Allegory of the Schuylkill statue

Originally carved in wood in 1809 by William Rush and housed in the fountain at the Centre Street Water Works, the Water Nymph and Bittern statue, its technical term, was relocated to Fairmount Water Works in 1827. In 1872, the deteriorating wooden version was cast in bronze and this version was placed in the fountain in the South Garden.
